What is Organic food  ?

Organic food is food grown, processed and prepared without using any chemical fertilizers, pesticides, or chemical preservatives.

For a food to be classed as organic, at least 95 % of its ingredients must have been produced using organically farmed plants or animals.  Organic food farmers and producers must have their products approved by a specific certifying body.  This certification body carries out regular inspections on production methods, packaging, and labelling to ensure that producers continue to meet strict industry standards.

Organic farming:

Organic agriculture is about a way of farming that pays close attention to nature by using fewer chemicals on the land such as artificial fertilizers, which can pollute waterways. It means more wildlife and biodiversity, the absence of veterinary medicines such as antibiotics in rearing livestock and the avoidance of genetic modification. Organic farming can also offer benefits for animal welfare, as animals are required to be kept in more natural, free range conditions.

Organic farming and foods use:

  • No synthetic fertilizers or pesticides (with exceptions).

  • No antibiotics or growth hormones for livestock.

  • No genetically modified ingredients.

  • No artificial flavors, colors or preservatives.

  • No sewage sludge.

  • No radiation on their foods.

Health Benefits of Eating Organic Food :

  • Safe from Dangerous Pesticides- Chemical pesticides has been linked to breast, prostrate and other cancers, non-Hodgkins lymphoma, leukemia, infertility, convulsions, immune and endocrine disorders, Parkinson's disease and depression.

  • Safe from Harmful Chemicals- Herbicides and fertilizers have been connected with various cancers, immune disorders, infertility, cardiac disease, hypertension, and numerous other diseases.

  • Stronger, More Energetic Body : No pesticides, chemicals, or processed additives bogging down your system means a smaller risk of disease, illness, and disorders in yourself. Nothing leaves you feeling tired and gross like unhealthy junk food.

  • Highly Nutritious- Organic food products contain very high nutritional content because they do not contain modified  artificial ingredients than conventional agricultural food products. The vitamin and mineral contents of organic food products are always high as the soil life doesn’t deteriorate due to  synthetic chemicals, and health offers the most suitable mechanism for crops to access soil nutrients.

  • Better taste- Keeping nutrition aside, the mineral and sugar structures in organic foods are tasty because the crops are given more time to develop and mature. Natural and environmentally friendly agricultural production techniques (organic farming techniques) are the reason for the better taste in organic food products.

  • Resistance to Antibiotics- Due to humans being susceptible to various health issues and diseases, they have to take precautionary measures to ensure they remain healthy, which is achieved by getting various vaccinations and antibiotic drugs when a new strain of virus or bacteria is realized. Non-organic food sources, especially livestock and feeds, use vaccines, growth hormones, animal by-products, and antibiotics to treat and feed the animals. When humans consume non-organic food products, they indirectly consume antibiotics, growth hormones, and vaccines that weaken immune systems on antibiotics, vaccines, hormones, and animal by-products overdose. This may alter the immune system, thereby rendering humans unable to defend themselves against diseases. The benefits of organic food is that their production processes do not involve antibiotics, growth hormones, animal by-products, or vaccines.

  • Helps in Preserving the Environment- By purchasing organic food products, you support seasonal products that put less pressure on our environment. The natural way of growing vegetables and fruits is easy. By buying organic food, we also make sure that no toxins are put into the air, water or soil.
